My feet take a trip into the ’80s with a beach cruiser
This is not the beach, this is not summer, this is cold Joburg weather and these are my new Beach Cruiser, New Balance shoes. The sneakers that take you back in time to all things ’80s.
Let me just start by saying that it took 3 months to get my hands on these retro sneakers, which came as the best birthday surprise from my family (they were sold out everywhere).
Designed in the ’80s and made with suede and bright colours I wanted to style these sneakers with a more modern look. In this post I dressed them with skinny jeans, a formal turtleneck and a baggy winter jacket.
Emphasizing the everyday chilled look I added my leather backpack, a structured bag with a story behind it.
Although I don’t use this bag often I still consider it a gem that I found while traveling around South America last year. While walking the city of La Paz we came across a road that was filled with different leather stores. Every store selling different types of products, bags, jackets, shoes, hats, belts, basically everything an Indiana Jones fan would need.
The only issue was that 90% of the shops in Boliva only accept cash, as in no plastic magic swipe card. Which looking back was probably a good thing considering it was the first stop of the trip and I definitely didn’t have enough space in my bag for an assortment of leather goods.
I’ve found that I barely wear jewellery in winter except for this pendent, which I wear over so many winter knits. It gives a feminine touch to all the navy blue, grey and black clothes I wear during the cold weather.
A cool trend at the moment is pairing a bunch of different length pendents with each other so they’re hanging just above/below one another. Definitely a cool way to add some texture if you’re wearing a very simple look. And it works well for summer and winter outfits.
It might not a sunny day and you’re probably not sipping G&Ts on the beach but if there’s anything that brightens up a dull day it’s a pair of retro sneakers. And these beach cruiser ones are currently my favourite.
