H&M launched in South Africa and specifically Joburg on Wednesday evening for a night of sushi, cocktails and macaroons.. macaroons..macaroons!
Best part of it was that the Balmain collaboration, HMxBalmain, launched globally on Thursday the 5th November… Which basically meant that a couple of lucky Joburgers were some of the first people to get their hands on the collection.
Not surprisingly the collection sold out within 30 min, which resulted in some mob mentality. Crazy people grabbing anything they could get their hands on, pushing people to find their size and boyfriends frantically on the phone to find out if they had in fact fought off other girls for the right dress.
Having stalked the collection online I knew what I was looking for – the long wool jacket! Until I saw it and thought it was extremely plain. Can you get something similar at a handful of other stores – yeah… If you’re going to buy something from a collaboration shouldn’t it be a distinctive style that resembles the designer? I wanted something that I would always know was a Balmain piece.
After everything had sold out and I was standing in the queue to pay when they released more stock and I randomly grabbed this blue zip up top. I was drawn to the braided detail that is so characteristically Balmain.
Not having any time to actually try it on I basically put it over my clothes and knew I had to get it. I got it in a few sizes bigger so that I can flip the top around and use it as a jacket. Basically I won so many times over 🙂
I’ve paired this top with the denim shorts, which I also picked up from H&M. I love playing with formal and casual pieces like this ripped denim. Which is definitely my distinctive style, formal skirt and sneakers? Yeah.. Ripped shorts and heels.. literally the best.
